On January 23, police in Kolkata saved the life of a 40-year-old man who had attempted to end his life by climbing a bridge.?
The police promised the frightened man a packet of biryani and a job.
According to a police officer from Karaya station, the event caused a 30-minute traffic delay on one of the city's busiest routes. The individual took this drastic move as a result of emotional turmoil caused by his separation from his wife and financial troubles caused by business losses.
"Around 2:30 p.m., he was driving his eldest daughter to Science City on his two-wheeler. He abruptly came to a halt at the bridge and informed her that his mobile phone had fallen somewhere on the road and he was looking for it. He left her on the road, climbed up the bridge, and then threatened to jump off," the officer stated.?
Police from the neighboring station, as well as members of the Kolkata Police Disaster Management Group (DMG) and the fire department, rushed to the scene and began speaking with him. He stated that the man consented to descend after being offered biryani and job.
"We chatted with his daughter to grasp the issue and then crafted a conversation to persuade and bring him down. And then, after we made the offers, he agreed to come down," the officer explained.
Police believe that if the man had slipped off the bridge, he would¡¯ve crashed into the electric poles or fallen onto the?railway?tracks. This may have caused terrible injuries.?
