It¡¯s a mode of transport that we¡¯ve all only seen superheroes use in movies. But looks like this fantastical mode of transportwill soon be a reality.
Thanks to successful the ¡®Mission: Human Flight¡¯ project supportedby Expo 2020 Dubai, the world witnessed its first carbon-fiber wingsuit, designed bySwiss aviation expert Yves Rossy.
A video posted to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Princeof Dubai¡¯s, Instagram account (and now YouTube) shows one of the ¡®Jetmen¡¯taking off from Dubai's Marina location, and then and soaring up intothe air.
"At the end of a 3-minute flight punctuated by a rolland a loop at 1800m altitude, Jetman Vince Reffet opened his parachute at 1500mbefore landing back at Skydive Dubai," the description said.
Daredevil Vince Reffet has soared into the skies above Dubaiin the latest "Jetman" stunt, taking off from the ground and climbingto 1,800metres (nearly 6,000 feet) and many compared him to Iron Man.
Elated 'jetman' Vince Reffet took to Instagram to share hisachievement. "A BIG dream came to REALITY, It would have been impossiblewithout this amazing team," he wrote and thanked his team.
Within seconds, Reffet reached more than 325 feet and within30 seconds reached a height of 3,280 feet at an average speed of 130 knots,reports Gulf Today.
By the end of the three-minute flight, reaching an altitudeof nearly 5,000 feet, Reffet opened a parachute and landed safely.
Jetman Reffet is overjoyed with the achievement. "It'sthe result of extremely thorough teamwork, where each small step generated hugeresults. Everything was planned to the split second, and I was overjoyed by theprogress that was achieved," he said in a statement.
"One of the next objectives is to land back on theground after a flight at altitude, without needing to open a parachute. It'sbeing worked on," he added.
"We accomplished another world first in 100 percentautonomous human flight with @jetmandubai, who took off from the ground beforesoaring to a high-altitude flight of up to 1,800m!" tweeted Expo 2020Dubai, the mammoth trade fair that will open in October.
The jetmen had previously launched themselves into the airby jumping down from high platforms.
They have pulled off aseries of jaw-dropping flights in Dubai, soaring above the world's tallestbuilding Burj Khalifa, and alongside an Emirates Airbus A380, the world'slargest commercial airplane.
