Imagine you're shopping at a grocery store and see a person taking things from the shelves and stuffing it inside his bag in broad daylight. You notice that everyone else can see this person stealing stuff from the shop openly as well but no one is doing anything.?
Something like that happened at a Walgreens store in San Francisco where a local reporter captured a video of a young man?in a black hooded jacket taking items from a shelf and shoving them into a black garbage bag.
He captured others taking a video of the guy as well. That also included the security guard who tried to stop the shoplifter. However, he didn't really get into a fight and let him go.?
This entire video left the internet?divided where people asked if they should have tried to stop the guy from stealing or not.?
There was debate regarding the same due to a?city law called Proposition 47, a controversial 2014 referendum that lowered the penalty for stealing goods worth less than $950 from a felony to a?misdemeanor. This doesn't?exactly make shoplifting a felony and it is?punishable by probation, fines, restitution, and up to 6 months in jail.??
People had a lot of comments about the security issue.?
Walgreens spokesman Phil Caruso said in a statement to?CNN "?Unfortunately, this is another example of blatant retail theft which is an ongoing problem for several retailers in San Francisco"
