A nursing home in Taiwan has been forced to issue an apology for hiring a stripper to perform for senior citizens in wheelchairs.
The Taoyuan Veterans Home, a state-run facility for retired army personnel, paid the adult entertainer for a performance?to celebrate?Mid-Autumn Festival?¡ª an important holiday in Chinese culture.
The video of the?raunchy performance was filmed by an attendee before it was posted to social media and quickly went viral.
The now-viral clip shows the dancer performing for a crowd of about a dozen men in wheelchairs. The men can be seen laughing, clapping, and enjoying the performance. The dancer also gives one elderly man a lapdance.
After the video went viral, the facility faced severe backlash?for organising the show.
"The intention of the event was to entertain residents and make them happy. We are very sorry for the offence that was caused," a spokesperson from the home said.
The nursing home also mentioned that the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations had been cancelled the previous years due to Covid, and they were just trying to lift their residents' spirits.
They further said that they would be more 'cautious' in the future.?Many people took to the comments section to have their say.?
"Really! Why would they think that something like this would be appropriate for everyone in this audience?" a user commented.?"God forbid these men get one last interaction with a scantily-clad woman before their quickly-approaching demise," another user said.?"Don¡¯t know, Grandpa seems to be enjoying himself. It also seems that everyone else was clapping their hands. I say, let them enjoy themselves," a third user said.?"This is stupid and ridiculous. How about treating them well and with dignity, respect and honour," another added.?
