Ola auto driver allegedly slaps woman after she cancels ride, hurls abuses: 'Tera baap dega gas?'

In a harrowing episode, a woman alleged an Ola auto rickshaw driver slapped her after she cancelled the ride. He came at her, with aggressive body language and all, threatened her, tried to slap her phone away and when she said she'd drag him to the cops, he said, "Haan, chal." Clips of the incident, seemingly shared by the woman passenger herself on X (user/@nihihiti) show everything in stark detail. This is yet another incident that highlights the failing system that is Ola cabs. Now apart from broken down cabs with shabby interiors, apparently bodily harm is something else passengers have to worry about.

In a clip that surfaced on the Bengaluru forum of Reddit, an aggressive Ola auto driver reportedly slapped a woman and hurled abuses at her in a mix of Hindi and Kannada possibly after she cancelled the ride. Infuriatingly, she sat cornered inside the auto while no one did a thing. At that point, the auto driver came at her multiple times furious that she would even dare to cancel the ride.?

The clip opens with a shot of the driver finishing a sentence when she asks, "Why are you screaming?"?

?"Haan, tera baap dega kya gas?" he asked her."Don't scream at me and don't curse," she warns him. "What'll you do?" he challenges her. "I'll go to the cops."?

"Let's go then," he replies. Then he continues to say something in Kannada. She asks," It's not like you guys never cancel. So what huge mistake did I make cancelling this ride?"?

"Ruk, chal," he said telling her to come with him to the police station."It's my wish. I won't go if I don't want to," she fires back.?

This is when he lunges at her and tries to snatch her phone away.And after all this has gone on for close to a minute, someone off-camera intervenes. By this point, the auto driver sitting in the driver's seat also tries to calm the man down but he refuses to relent.?

?"Why did you slap me," she then questions him several times, something he doesn't acknowledge on camera.He eventually moves to his auto that he had parked next to this one and asks the other driver, "How could she cancel?"?

She retorts, "Why can't I cancel? Is it necessary that I have to go to the place I booked my ride for? Can't I change my mind?"He turns to the driver again, sits back in his auto, and shouts something in Kannada and this is where the almost two-minute clip cuts off.

The woman later explained it was during peak hours that she and her friend had booked two autos. After one arrived, she cancelled the other. Furious after having apparently figured out what happened, he followed them and the episode took place. Bengaluru City Police took cognizance of the matter and wrote back to her on X:?

Karnataka Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Traffic and Safety Alok Kumar also took to X to say: “Such behaviour is unacceptable. A few people like him give the auto drivers' community a bad name. I have informed the concerned authorities to take appropriate action.”??

Not the first time an Ola cab or auto has given passengers endless grief

Anyone who has taken an Ola cab knows the pathetic state all their cabs are in: they stink, the upholstery has seen better days and the drivers are simply the worst. And right when you're trying to negotiate with yourself and thinking it can't get any worse, it does.?

The driver turns out to be the most rude, obnoxious person you could've crossed paths with. Like countless such episodes, there was one that took place in April of this year. The instance stands out because Ola was told to pay Jabez Samuel--who was travelling with his wife and helper--Rs 1 lakh compensation.?

TOI reported that Hyderabad-based Samuel got an unclean and stinking car and a horrible driver who was not only rude but also refused to turn on the AC.?Samuel had booked the cab for some hours and for multiple stops, but the three were kicked out of the cab after just four to five kilometres. The Ola customer care was another horrific experience for him. Despite having escalated the issue, he reportedly received multiple calls over the outstanding bill. Samuel paid the bill, and having had enough then raised a request for a refund and compensation.

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission III, Hyderabad questioned the driver's action citing a deficiency in service and unfair trade practice. The court then ordered a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the passenger, a refund, plus an additional cost of Rs 5,000.?

In yet another incident,?Kiran Verma, an entrepreneur, took to Linkedin to share details of his harrowing experience with Ola.

He wrote how he was slapped in front of his six-year-old son by the Ola cab driver who first tried to manipulate him into paying more while driving in the wrong direction. Red flag. Check. Check. Check.
