The Raab Collection House auctioned off a letter written and signed by one of the United States' Founding Fathers, John Adams, for Rs 32 lakh. The lovely, romantic letter was written to a teenage bride whose family has close ties to the country's second president.?
It had been stored discreetly in the family collection for the past 200 years, and the existence of the letters was unknown to scholars.
On December 14, 1824, John wrote to his neighbour Ellen Maria Brackett that he was pleased with the bride and groom's friendship. John Adams, his close friend Judge Peter, and the woman Miss Robinson were on the groom's side.?
He stated that he would love and respect the pair for the rest of his life. In the latter, he sent the bride lovely wishes for prosperity in her life and afterwards signed himself as her true friend at the end of the letter.??
He composed this letter in his final days, while staying at his home, Peace Field, in Quincy, Massachusetts, near Boston.?
Ellen Maria Brackett came from a local family and was 19 years old when she married Thomas Robinson. Miss Robinson was the groom's sister, according to the letter.
This letter was retained in the young couple's leather-bound keepsake album, Thomas and Ellen. The former president's signature, as well as the letter itself, are remarkable and precious pieces of memorabilia from that historical period.?
