The family turned to Reddit to share the incredible letter they'd got from their doctor, revealing how it arrived after they'd said their final goodbyes to their 18-year-old dog, Sunny.
It was written by 'Helper' who explained they were an angel tasked with informing people that their dogs had arrived in heaven.
"There are a lot of angels in Heaven, and we all have different jobs," said the letter. "One of the head angels told me that you were worried about Sunny and asked me to write you about him." Sunny had recently arrived at the pearly gates, the message said, and he was 'doing just wonderful'.
Sunny was described as having the time of his life in canine heaven, with the letter stating that he was 'running and jumping' and having a 'wonderful time' getting to know some familiar furry companions.
Things only get more emotional from there, as the letter assures the family that the dog misses them and "hopes that you understand why he had to come here."
"I am sure that Sunny will be there to greet you when you come here one day, and you will have a grand reunion," it said.
The letter concluded with Sunny sending his love, and as they shared it on Reddit, Sunny's owner stated they had 'no words'.
Reddit users had mixed reactions to the letter
"Our vet sends sympathy cards signed by all of the staff. It's kind of hard to take, but they know people are hurting. Ask vet staff what the hardest part of their job is, and it's putting down a pet who has been part of your life and family day in and day out for many years," a Reddit user wrote.
