The Leaning Tower of Pisa is not leaning as much as it has done up until now. Built in 1173, it took 344 years to be completed. After the construction of the second floor, it?began to lean due to one side sinking into soft ground.
Now the attraction is slowly straightening up and is finally stable, thanks to the engineering work that is saving this tourist attraction.
The tower's surveillance group which was set up to monitor restoration progress?said in a statement that after 17 years of observation "the Tower of Pisa is stable and very slowly reducing its lean."

The Engineering professor, Nunziante Squelia of Pisa University said that the 57-meter monument had straightened by four centimetres, the local Italian media reported.
For safety measures, the tower was closed to the public in January 1990 for 11 years, as its tilt reached 4.5 meters from the vertical. It has since been straightened by more than 40 centimetres.??
The mesmerising tower is the symbol of power and some people do suggest that the tower should be straightened while some say that they would rather see it fall over than be straightened. After all, how could you call it the Leaning Tower of Pisa if it didn't lean?
