More recently, a video that's going viral on Twitter, shows a Mahout mercilessly lashing a whip and beating up a temple elephant named Karnan.?

Soon after the video went viral, an NGO named 'Voice for Asian Elephants Society' conducted an investigation and said, 'Mahouts were fired. The elephant has been transferred to Palakkad district, & is being monitored closely by the forest dept.'
The Twitter user who shared the disturbing footage further added that the elephant is being monitored by the forest department in Kerala.?
This incident comes after the death of an Indian elephant Flavia, who was kept in solitary confinement for 43 years of her life at Spain¡¯s Cordoba Zoo.
Flavia,?suffered from depression and her health deteriorated. She was reportedly separated from her herd at the mere age of three and had been in captivity ever since.
