Human beings can be unforgiving in the ways they treat animals. When she was just three-years-old an Indian Flavia was separated from her herd and taken to a zoo.
Being taken away from the herd can impact the animals in ways unknown and for Flavia, things got worse after being kept in solitary confinement for 43 years of her life at Spain¡¯s Cordoba Zoo.
Animal rights groups had made several attempts to try to rescue Flavia, but it was too late.
The elephant was suffering from a severe case of depression, which led to deteriorating health and weight loss. But on March 1, 2019, Flavia, who has been a part of multiple campaigns against animals behind bars, passed away at the zoo, all alone.
She collapsed in her enclosure on Friday, and after she was unable to get to her feet, she was euthanized.
"During the last six months, Flavia's physical condition had deteriorated, but especially so in the last two weeks," Amparo Pernichi, the councillor in charge of Environmental issues at Cordoba City Hall told the Local.
The animal rights party Pacma was working with the people at the zoo to improve Flavia¡¯s enclosure.

They were also thinking of shifting the elephant to another safari park in Europe so that she could interact and live with other elephants.
But all this remains unaccomplished and Flavia has passed away. Rest in peace, dear Flavia, we hope you are in a better place!
