This cat definitely has more lives than nine. In a bizarre case on the internet, an Oregon clothing designer paid $3.2K (nearly Rs 3 lakh) to freeze dry her 16-year-old dead cat Lokicat. Soren High posted a video on TikTok and shared her mourning process and the preservation of the animal after her cat passed away.
The 35-year-old told the?New York Post, "I witnessed my?cat being killed by a dog I was fostering in front of my house late at night." She also revealed how she had taken her cat¡¯s death the hard way: ¡®This has been one of the hardest losses of my life, and I¡¯ve never experienced anything like this before, and since her death was such a sudden loss."
In another conversation with?Insider, High admitted that she was thinking about getting her pet companion preserved from the beginning, "I knew I wanted to have [Lokicat] preserved the day I took her home. It was an immediate knowledge that we were going to be together forever."
After her cat passed away on February 18, she decided it was best to?preserve?the animal by getting it freeze-dried. High explained in a follow-up video, "Freeze drying has less impact on the body tissues [compared to taxidermy], making the preservation much more ideal. There¡¯s very little chance that she wouldn¡¯t look like herself through freeze-dry."
The pet owner kept the cat¡¯s body in her freezer for a month before shipping it to Animal Family Pet Preservation in Ohio.
The company offers freeze-drying services in place of?taxidermy. In freeze-drying, cold temperatures are applied in a vacuum over a long time to remove moisture from body tissue."
She revealed, "Having the ability to touch her again is really special, being able to see her in the house again, just knowing that she¡¯s here, I personally believe it will really help me with my grief."
