Who doesn't love gift cards, vouchers or store credits? Surely most people around the world do, right? But the recently revealed findings from a survey shows another story in America.
As per a report in USA Today, a new survey from online financial marketplace CreditCards.com has found out that 47% of Americans have one unused gift card, voucher or store credit, totalling to a mammoth amount of $21 billion nationwide.
The findings were determined after the portal commissioned international Internet-based market research and data analytics firm, YouGov Plc, to survey 2,372 adults online in July 2022, about gift card usage.??
On an average, a person has $175 in unspent gift cards, vouchers and store credit, the report mentioned.?
The survey results showed that younger people are letting the unused credit go to waste more, with 52% of millennials and 51% of Gen Z having at least one unused gift card around. On an average, millennials have $226 in credit, and Gen Z have $149.
On the other hand, only 43% of Gen X have one unused gift card, and 42% of baby boomers have one, the findings show. Gen X have about $180 in unused gift cards and boomers have $133.?
The financial portal¡¯s survey also noted that the more money a person makes, the more they have in unspent gift cards.?
Results showed 41% Americans with annual household incomes of less than $50,000 have gift cards to use, averaging $128.?
Meanwhile, 57% of people with incomes of $80,000-$99,999 have unused cards, with an average of $227. For those making at least six figures, 56% of those have unused cards of an average $265, the report mentioned.
