Asia's richest person, Mukesh Ambani, and his wife, Nita, serve as an inspiration to many. While Mukesh Ambani holds the positions of Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, Nita Ambani is recognised as a philanthropist and businesswoman in her own right.
However, it may come as a surprise to some that Nita hails from a humble background and was a teacher before marrying into the Ambani family. In an interview, she revealed that her journey to success began after her marriage when she was mentored by a business tycoon.
Nita shared a warm bond with her late father-in-law, Dhirubhai Ambani, as revealed in an interview with Karan Thapar for his show 'Face to Face'. Dhirubhai Ambani had noticed Nita at a dance performance and approached her family with a marriage proposal for her with his elder son, Mukesh. After becoming part of the Ambani family, Nita spent half an hour every day with Dhirubhai, who quizzed her on various subjects, pushing her to stay informed about worldly matters.
Recalling her interactions with Dhirubhai, Nita mentioned, "Papa was quite a task-master... He used to quiz me on different questions¡ªshare market, Reliance, politics, world affairs, international affairs." Despite the challenging quizzes, Nita cherished the memories with her father-in-law and acknowledged his role in her growth.
Nita also emphasised the similarities in values between her family and the Ambani family, making her transition into the family smooth. She described the Ambani household as closely bonded, with dinner times shared among family members.
In a heartwarming gesture, when welcoming Radhika Merchant as the newest member of their family, Nita referred to her as "Ambani beti" (Ambani daughter) rather than a daughter-in-law. Radhika Merchant is the to-be wife of Mukesh and Nita Ambani's youngest son, Anant Ambani. The Ambanis hosted a lavish three-day pre-wedding celebration for Anant and Radhika in March 2024 at their hometown in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
