A lot of discussions have been ongoing on the internet ever since Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal launched the food aggregator¡¯s ¡®Pure Veg Mode¡¯.?Zomato¡¯s competitor Swiggy came under the limelight soon after for taking a swipe at the latest drive.??
Swiggy took it upon itself to address a viral sarcastic post circulating on social media. The food delivery company clarified that the 'fake ad' was not generated by Swiggy or any of its associates, urging users not to share it further.?
The poster in question appeared to mock Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal's recent announcement regarding a specialized fleet for serving orders exclusively from 'pure veg' restaurants.
The poster, featuring Swiggy's logo and name, depicted a scene with people rioting in the background while a landlord evicts a tenant.
¡°Eviction-safe food delivery. In Indian neighbourhoods, your dietary preferences are best kept private. Our delivery fleet doesn¡¯t leak your private habits to the world. You also save some money as we don¡¯t have to pay for the life insurance of our delivery staff against possible mob lynchings,¡± the poster read.
The poster spread like wildfire on the internet.
Reacting to the viral ad, Swiggy said, ¡°We came across a fake ad this morning regarding a recent controversy. If it isn't already obvious, this is NOT an ad by Swiggy.¡±
¡°It was neither created by us nor anybody affiliated with Swiggy. Kindly refrain from circulating or attributing it to Swiggy.¡±
Zomato unveiled its initiative to cater to customers who prefer dining/ordering from establishments that exclusively serve vegetarian options, even if non-vegetarian alternatives are available.
The food delivery company introduced a distinct and exclusively meat-free service, with its delivery riders sporting green uniforms instead of Zomato's typical red corporate attire for easy identification.
However, the company quickly revised its plans after facing criticism online, with Goyal acknowledging that they had overlooked the safety implications.
"Our riders' physical safety is of paramount importance to us," he wrote in a post on X.
"We now realise that even some of our customers could get into trouble with their landlords, and that would not be a nice thing if that happened because of us," he added.
¡°While we are going to continue to have a fleet for vegetarians, we have decided to remove the on-ground segregation of this fleet on the ground using the colour green.¡±
