Bill Gates is renowned for his role in establishing Microsoft as one of the largest tech companies globally and for his commitment to contributing "virtually all" of his approximate $128 billion net worth to philanthropy through his foundation.
"I¡¯ve been in the public eye since my early twenties, but much of my life before then isn¡¯t well known. Over the years, I¡¯ve often been asked about my upbringing, my time at Harvard, and co-founding the company. Those questions made me realise that people might be interested in my journey and the factors that influenced it," Gates wrote.
The forthcoming book, set to be released in February, will delve into the challenging aspects of the Microsoft co-founder's early years. This includes his experiences of feeling like an outsider as a child, facing conflicts with his parents during his rebellious teenage years, coping with the sudden loss of a loved one, and coming close to expulsion from college.
Reflecting on his formative years, Gates mentioned that the book would also include insights into the obstacles he encountered when he made the decision to drop out of school to pursue a gamble on an industry that was still in its nascent stages and not fully established.
"And I reflect on the luck I had to be born to a great family in a time of historic technological change and optimism, and to come of age just as the personal computer revolution was taking off," he said. "Source Code is my origin story, and I¡¯m looking forward to sharing it."
The billionaire has authored numerous books covering topics ranging from business and technology to global health and climate change.
