iPhone maker Apple, through its vendors, is expected to employ over 500,000 people in India over the next three years, according to government sources. Currently, Apple's vendors and suppliers employ 1.5 lakh people in India, with Tata Electronics being the largest job generator, operating two plants for Apple.
Apple plans to significantly increase production in India by more than five-fold, reaching around USD 40 billion (approximately 3.32 lakh crore) in the next 4-5 years.
While this expansion initially focused on infrastructure, Apple is now prioritizing the employees it hires in India as well. The company is reportedly making housing arrangements for its staff and ramping up hiring efforts.

According to news agency PTI, it has been reported that Apple, through its vendors, may create over 500,000 jobs in India over the next three years. The primary contributor to job creation for Apple is Tata Electronics, managing two plants for the company.
"A senior government official told PTI, 'Apple is accelerating hiring in India. At a conservative estimate, it is going to employ five lakh people in the next three years through its vendors and components suppliers.'"
This significant workforce expansion is crucial as Apple aims to increase production in India by over 5 times to approximately $40 billion (about 3.32 lakh crore) within just 4-5 years.
The substantial investments in infrastructure and human resources are already yielding results and impacting competitors. Counterpoint Research reports that Apple led the Indian market in revenue for the first time in 2023, although Samsung remained the leader in terms of volume sales.
Additionally, Apple's iPhone exports from India surged to $12.1 billion in 2023-24 from $6.27 billion in 2022-23, a nearly 100% increase, according to trade intelligence platform The Trade Vision.
However, Apple has not yet commented on these projections or claims.
