If you are a salaried employee, it's likely that your salary structure has the EPF component. Employee provident fund (EPF) is deducted every month from your salary, and it is mandatory for the employer to deposit both his and your portions of the contribution to your EPF account.?
But how do you, as an employee, check if the employer is depositing the money into your EPF account? Well, you can check the EPF balance to ensure that.
There are multiple ways to check your PF balance, both with and without UAN (Universal Account Number).
-Giving a missed call to the mobile number - 9966044425
-Sending an SMS to mobile number - 7738299899
-Using EPFO online portal
-Using UMANG mobile application
To check the EPF balance, make sure that the employer has activated your Universal Account Number (UAN). UAN is a unique identification number provided for all employees enrolled under the EPF scheme. All employees should have only one UAN during their working life irrespective of the companies they change. UAN is important as the entire process related to the EPF services is now operated online. Thanks to UAN, accessing your PF account services, such as withdrawal, checking EPF balance, and EPF loan application is easy, as per Cleartax.
Once your UAN number is activated, follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to the EPFO portal. Go to the tab ¡®Our Services¡¯ and choose the option that says ¡°For Employees¡± from the drop-down menu.
Step 2: Now, click on the option ¡®Member passbook¡¯ under ¡°Services.¡±
Step 3: A login page will appear. Enter your UAN number and password here after it has been activated.
Step 4: Select the ¡®Member ID¡¯ and click on the ¡®View Password [Old: Full]¡¯ option.
Step 5: Your PF details will be displayed on the screen.
Step 6: You can print this passbook by clicking on the ¡®Download Passbook¡¯ option.
Employees can check their EPF balance on their phones by downloading the Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG) app. Aside from checking EPF balances, the app allows you to file and track claims. Members must complete a one-time registration using their UAN-registered cellphone number to access the app, as per Cleartax.
Let¡¯s have a look at how you can use the UMANG app to view your EPF transactions:
Download the UMANG app from the Google Play Store or App Store.
Select the ¡°EPFO¡± option listed under the ¡®All Services¡¯ tab.
Under ¡®Employee Centric Service¡¯, click on ¡® View Passbook¡¯
Once the UAN is integrated with your KYC details, follow these steps:
Send an SMS to mobile number - 7738299899.
The message will be sent in the format ¡®EPFOHO UAN ENG¡®.
You¡¯ll have to set your preferred language of communication in the SMS. Just use the first three characters of your preferred language to do so. If you wish to receive updates in English, use the first three characters of the word English, i.e. EPFOHO UAN ENG. If you want to receive the message updates in Marathi, then type in EPFOHO UAN MAR.?
