During a sales trip to the Gulf, Ashok Kajaria seized an opportunity that would change the course of his entrepreneurial journey. He met with cast buyers who expressed a need for floor tiles and agreed to take him to Spain to explore options. After visiting 50 factories, Ashok partnered with Spain's top company, Todagres, to set up his own tile manufacturing plant in India.
In 1988, Kajaria Ceramics inaugurated its first plant in Sikandrabad (Uttar Pradesh) with a production capacity of 1 million square meters per annum. To promote the brand, Ashok Kajaria focused on marketing, launching the first Kajaria ad in 1989. This strategic move catapulted Kajaria Ceramics to a market leadership position within just two years of its inception.

As the European market shifted towards low-porosity vitrified tiles, Kajaria Ceramics adapted its production, leading to further growth and expansion. By 2015, the company had achieved unicorn status with a valuation of Rs 8000 crore, thanks to its focus on producing polished and glazed vitrified tiles.
