In a recent turn of events, union transport minister Nitin Gadkari has made a new revelation.?Looks like FASTag queues at toll booths will soon vanish as the government will soon introduce a satellite-based toll collection system.?
The new way of collecting toll will entail linking of bank accounts of the commuters through which toll will automatically get deducted.
He told news agency ANI, ¡°Now we are ending the toll and there will be a satellite based toll collection system. Money will be deducted from your bank account and the amount of road you cover will be charged accordingly. Through this time and money can be saved. Earlier, it used to take 9 hours to travel from Mumbai to Pune, but now it is reduced to 2 hours.¡±
Gadkari was asked to comment about the high toll tax rates to which he said that newly built? highways have reduced time and fuel both for the commuters. Therefore, it¡¯s only natural to charge toll tax.
He said, "Earlier, it used to take nine hours to travel from Mumbai to Pune. Now it is a 2-hour journey. Seven hours of diesel get saved. Naturally, we have to pay some money in return. We are doing it through public-private investment. So we will have to return the money too."
