The postal department has initiated the enrollment process for the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a government scheme designed to provide free electricity by supporting the installation of solar panels in households.

Under the scheme, households opting to install solar power systems on their roofs will be eligible to receive 300 units of free electricity, ensuring that they benefit from a supply of complementary power.
As per the current benchmark prices, the scheme will offer a subsidy of Rs 30,000 for a 1 kW system, Rs 60,000 for a 2 kW system, and Rs 78,000 for 3 kW systems or higher.
1. To register for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, please visit the portal https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in/ and provide the required information, including your State and Electricity Distribution Company details.
2. Enter your Electricity Consumer Number, along with your mobile number and email address. Ensure that the information provided is accurate to successfully register for the scheme.
3. Submit your application for rooftop solar by filling out the provided form.
4.? After receiving approval, proceed to install the solar power system through any of the registered vendors affiliated with your Electricity Distribution Company (DISCOM).
5. Furnish the details of your installed solar power system and initiate the application for a net meter.
6. Subsequently, a commissioning certificate will be generated through the portal as part of the process.
7. Next, you are required to submit your bank account details along with a cancelled cheque through the portal.
8. Upon completion, you can expect to receive the subsidy in your bank account within a timeframe of 30 days.
This initiative will empower households to reduce their electricity expenses and generate additional income by selling surplus power to DISCOMs. A 3 kW system, on average, is expected to produce over 300 units per month for a household.
The envisioned scheme is poised to contribute to the expansion of solar capacity by 30 GW through rooftop solar installations in the residential sector. This substantial addition is anticipated to generate 1000 billion units (BUs) of electricity and lead to a reduction of 720 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions over the 25-year lifespan of rooftop systems.
It is estimated that the scheme will create around 17 lakh direct jobs in manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, sales, installation, O&M and other services.
For availing benefits of PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana by households, the Government has launched a massive campaign since the launch of the scheme for raising awareness and generating applications from interested households.
