Ratan Tata is one of the most loved entrepreneurs. He gets the love and respect from people all around the world. Books can be written about his humility and philanthropy. The man has once again won hearts of the country by stepping in and saving the jobs of 115 employees.
Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) had laid off 115 of its employees on June 28 which included 55 faculty members and 60 non-teaching staff.?
TISS terminated employees due to a lack of funding from the Tata Education Trust for their salaries. The administration had been pursuing funding continuation from the Trust for the past six months without success, making it challenging to sustain operations.
Those terminated were working on projects funded by the Trust, while permanent faculty members at TISS campuses are paid by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work, TISS was renamed Tata Institute of Social Sciences in 1944. In 1964, it achieved a significant milestone by being recognized as a Deemed University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.
Since its founding, TISS has strived for excellence in higher education and gained renown for its research in developmental studies, with a particular emphasis on promoting equality, social justice, and human rights.

TISS recently announced the suspension of the termination of 55 faculty members and 60 non-teaching staff, following an agreement by the Tata Education Trust (TET), led by Ratan Tata, to provide additional financial grants.
"Ongoing discussions with Tata Education Trust have ensured commitment towards resolving this issue. TET has pledged to release funds for the salaries of project, programme faculty, and non-teaching staff," TISS stated.
Additionally, the staff have been requested to resume their duties, with assurances that their salaries will be disbursed once the institute receives the TET Support Grant.
