Sudha Murty is an inspiration to many. Her interviews are always insightful as she talks about life and the lessons that it taught her. In a recent interview with India Today, she spoke about achieving work-life balance that many find hard to achieve. She went on to advise working couples about maintaining a strong bond despite dealing with stress and professional commitments.?
During her address at the India Today Conclave 2024, the engineer-turned-philanthropist and author emphasized the importance of maintaining composure in interpersonal relationships, suggesting that when one individual is distressed, the other should remain calm.
She said, ¡°When you are married, you are bound to fight. Accept that. If you say you have never fought, you are not husband and wife.¡±?
¡°When you fight, one person is upset, second should be cool. They should not open their mouth. When Murthy is angry, I will never talk. Let him pour out what he wants to. I keep quiet,¡± she said. ¡°When I am angry, he keeps quiet. But, in real life, I keep quiet most of the time,¡± Murty added.
She also emphasized on why couples should not be upset together. ¡°That is a recipe for further fights,¡± she said.
Murty also discussed the reality that there are no flawless couples, emphasizing that everyone brings their own strengths and weaknesses to a relationship.
¡°Life is give and take. There¡¯s no perfect life, no perfect couple. He comes along with his plus and minus. I have my own plus and minus.¡±
She then suggested men to extend help in the kitchen, ¡°All men of this generation should help their wife in the kitchen. It is very important.¡±
¡°She should be software engineer, come back and cook. She should attend PTA meetings. No. You have to share the burden of your wife. Because you stay in a city and you¡¯re young. Both of you have aspirations. But, you have to share your difficulties,¡± Murty added.
¡°All men normally talk. Oh, my mother was a great cook. Because she was not working. She would cook all day. Wife is working then you expect she should be like your mother. It is not possible.¡±
Meanwhile, Sudha Murty, aged 73, was sworn in as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, taking her oath in the Kannada language, within the chamber of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar at the Parliament House on Thursday.
"I am happy and at the same time I feel I have been given more responsibility. It is very nice of him, he (PM Modi) appreciated my work, I want to thank him. I am happy that I will get a bigger platform to work for the poor," she told ANI.
