You Won't Need A Key To Get In Your Tesla Roadster; Here Is How It Will Work
Tesla is in the limelight again, with the debut of its first ever electric pickup truck. Called Cybertruck, the vehicle is nothing less than what its name suggests. After all, building unconventional electric vehicles is exactly what Tesla does.
So naturally, nothing less can be expected from Tesla Roadster, its electric supercar, that is still in the making and is set to mark its global appearance next year. The embedded features in it, however, keep enthralling the enthusiasts as they are revealed.
An interesting one among them that was confirmed recently by Tesla Chief Elon Musk is the ability to run without a key. As the tech billionaire put it in a recent tweet - ¡°It might not need a key at all¡±.
A cool door system makes it possible. As seen in the prototype, the Roadster makes use of a new door unlock system that only needs the owner¡¯s finger touch to work.

As can be seen in the video below, the Roadster has what looks to be a fingerprint reader right next to the door. Mind you, it's not a fingerprint sensor but just a touch sensitive button that will open the car door for you.
If this turns out to be true for the production ready variant, the system will definitely not be used for locking or unlocking the door per se. Instead, it will just be used for a key-less entry through opening and closing of the door without the need to press any button, even on the key fob.

Interestingly, this is also how the key card designed by Tesla currently works for the Tesla Model 3. The card came as a backup for the Tesla app, which was meant to be the primary way to open doors for the users. It didn¡¯t work out though.
It will be interesting to see how the finger touch replaces the key fob in the Roadster. After all, Elon Musk has already made grand promises for the supercar, to the point that he even mentioned ¡°flying¡± the car to probably be on cars someday.
What will feature and will not, will only be revealed once the car is launched sometime in 2021.
