EV Charging Stations In India: 2000 New Ones This Fiscal Thanks To EESL
Energy service company EESL is planning to set up EV charging stations in India. The company aims to install around 2000 EV charging facilities in addition to the near 300 stations already installed. The effort will be undertaken by the joint venture of PSUs under the Ministry of Power.
In another big push to electric mobility in the country, India¡¯s energy service company EESL is planning to set up EV charging stations in India this fiscal year. The company aims to install around 2,000 EV charging facilities in addition to the near 300 stations already installed.
The effort will be undertaken by the joint venture of PSUs under the Ministry of Power, the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). EESL¡¯s plan has not been deterred even with the Covid-19 induced lockdown across the nation.
In an interaction with IANS, EESL Managing Director Saurabh Kumar said, "We have exceeded our target of EV charging stations for FY20. Now we have over 300 such charging stations across the country."
For the financial year 20-21 Kumar says that the company aims to accelerate the installation process. With that, it is estimated to set up 2,000 new EV charging stations. "Our installation plans have not at all slowed down. In fact, this year (FY21) we have set a target of 2,000 charging stations," Kumar said.
The 2000 charging stations in this fiscal year is a part of a wider network of 10,000 charging stations planned for the entire country within the next two to three years.
EV Charging Stations In Delhi NCR
EESL is planning to install around 500 charging stations within Delhi-NCR in the current fiscal. This will be done through partnerships with various private and public companies such as Apollo Hospitals, BSNL, BHEL and HPCL, among others. EESL also tied up with the Noida authority to set up public charging infrastructure in the city. Similar partnerships with other urban local bodies are also underway.
The partnership involves the leasing of land area to EESL for the charging stations. According to Kumar, the land is provided free of cost to the company by most municipal bodies or firms for now. During its operational period of 10 years, EESL pays a certain proportion as land rental to the entity for every kilowatt-hour (kW/h) utilised by it.
Another part of the push involves the scaling up of smart meters and smart grids, storage and other clean energy technologies. With these measures in place, EESL aims to see a rapid rise in the e-mobility ecosystem in the country.
