Commuters on routes like Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, Palam Vihar Road, Gurugram-Sohna Road, Old Delhi Road, Mehrauli Road are meant to be helped through these timely updates on traffic movement through Google Maps.
A recent report by Jagran mentions that the city traffic police has entered into an agreement with Google for the updates. Post a test-run, information on road accidents, route diversions, closed routes will be timely available on Google Maps.

As per Himanshu Garg, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Gurugram quoted in the report, the purpose of this move is to inform commuters timely so alternate routes can opted for. This would in turn avoid massive traffic jams on the affected routes.
He further mentioned that even though the traffic police pushes out timely updates on traffic movement through its own social media channels, a lot of people use Google Maps for commuting. Hence this would be an added benefit to the cause.
While heightened traffic in Gurugram is an issue, Odisha recently reported just the opposite of this. After the implementation of new Motor Vehicle Act, people in Odisha have lessened their use of personal vehicles. This has further resulted in a considerable drop in the demand of petrol and diesel.
