Harley Davidson LiveWire Electric Motorcycle Is Coming To India This Month
Harley-Davidson LiveWire will be unveiled in India on August 27. The electric motorcycle is expected to go on sale later this year or early next year. The bike will be available in US dealerships in August for a $29799 MSRP Rs 208 lakh.
Harley-Davidson had taken the motorcycling industry by storm when it announced its plans to go electric. LiveWire - the first electric Harley that came into being afterwards promised everything associated with the brand¡¯s make, sans emissions. Now the company plans to bring the offering to India too.
The unveiling in India will be carried out on August 27. Meanwhile, Harley-Davidson has already listed the electric motorcycle on its India website. Information about the bike is already out following its launch in other countries. As for the price, Harley-Davidson will be announcing that on the bike¡¯s official launch in the country, following the first showcase. The bike is then expected to go on sale later this year or early next year.
For those unaware, here is a small background of how the first ever electric Harley-Davidson motorcycle came into being. Harley had been hinting at the motorcycle for more than half a decade now and finally showcased the first production ready model at the EICMA 2018.

Being the first of its kind, Harley had to use a completely new platform for the LiveWire, something its calls the H-D Revelation. In essence, it contains a permanent magnet electric motor backed by a 15.5 kWh battery. In figures, the electric bike churns out 78 kW (104.6 bhp) and a peak Torque of 116 Nm.
The company has also claimed that the LiveWire is the quickest Harley produced to date. Naturally so, as the max torque is available right from the start in the electric motorcycle. 0-100 kmph in about 3 seconds, to be specific, that is just shy of some of the quickest bikes ever produced - Suzuki Hayabusa (2.47 seconds) and Suzuki GSX-R1000 (2.35 seconds). More impressively, the LiveWire claims a range of 235 km within city on a single charge.

Harley Davidson 'LiveWire' will be available in US dealerships in August for a $29,799 MSRP (Rs 20,8 lakh). Now we cannot expect a similar price tag in India thanks to the customs. But the subsidies and incentives being offered by the Indian government for EV makers and buyers alike is expected to bring the price just a bit upwards of its US counterpart.
Now many might argue that India is still in a nascent stage to adapt to an electric vehicle of this magnitude. True, there aren¡¯t as many electric charging stations as we would like. But that should not stop the auto companies from releasing such significant EVs in the country. After all, such products and the corresponding infrastructure go hand in hand.
More importantly, an electric bike is more practical in India¡¯s scenario than an electric car. It will offer considerable range for a city commute, should use less energy in comparison and of course, will be easily charged even with a home charger without the need for ample space for its parking.
