Tata Motors Confirms 5 New Electric Cars - Nexon Electric, Altroz Electric & More By 2020
Tata Motors has official confirmed its upcoming lineup of electric vehicles in India. Several exciting Tata cars will be having their electric variants being launched in the country. The declaration also means that the Indian OEM will finally be entering the personal electric car market with more than one offering.
Tata Motors has official confirmed its upcoming lineup of electric vehicles in India and as per the announcement, several exciting Tata cars will be having their electric variants being launched in the country within the next 12 to 18 months. The declaration also means that the Indian OEM will finally be entering the personal electric car market in the country with more than one offering.
The EV lineup was announced by Tata Motors Chairman N Chandrasekaran at the company¡¯s 74th annual general meeting held recently. "In the next 12-18 months we will have five electric vehicles in the market. This will be the Tigor, electric Nexon, electric Altroz a new Tigor with higher mileage and one more vehicle," said Chandrasekaran as per a report.
The five electric vehicles mentioned above also include the electric variant of Tigor that Tata Motors already has up for grabs. The electric car, however, was only for sale to government bodies until only weeks earlier, when the Tigor EV was made available for purchase to non-government buyers too.

The present model of the Tigor EV promises a range of 140 km on a single charge. As per the names mentioned by Chandrasekaran, another variant of the electric car with a better range will be made available. In addition, the electric variant of Nexon and Altroz will also be produced by the company. All this, by 2020 end.
The announcement has made it clear that Tata Motors plans to play it big in the EV space in the country. "We have plans in three companies - Tata Motors, Tata Chemicals and Tata Power - as far as EV is concerned. If there is more investment required then Tata Sons will also get in. We have to see what needs to be done," Chandrasekaran further stressed on the company¡¯s commitment towards EV production.

"In February, we put a plan in motion. But we want to calibrate our plans much higher in light of the recent announcements by the government. Our plan in EV is to go strong on it. We don't want to do a little bit here and there. This is an area where we have to definitely play big. If there is an opportunity we want to be an important player," he added.
The idea is to monetise on the recent incentives offered by the government on both electric vehicle purchase as well as production in the country. Subsidies are being offered on the production end, more so on the indigenous units. Tata Motors, being one of the biggest OEMs in the country, can take advantage of all such incentives and be a dominant player in the EV space, as it has decided to do now.
"This budget the incentives announced both on the production and demand side has been quite good so we have to see how to translate this into sales," he pointed out.
