MG's Upcoming Electric SUV eZS Has An Advantage Over Hyundai Kona - A Bigger Battery
MG eZS electric SUV is supposed to be launched in India towards the end of this year. The model will be the same as the one revealed in China recently. The car promises a 445kWh lithium-ion battery - bigger than that on the Kona Kona was already being hailed for its big 392 kWh battery.
Hyundai recently started a trend of potent electric vehicles in India with the launch of its Kona electric SUV in the country. The company, however, is not the only one gunning for the Indian EV market. Several others are making way to the country with their offerings. The list also includes one OEM that had only just entered the Indian auto market - Morris Garages (MG). Having promised an electric SUV in India by December end, the company has now launched the same in China, which means we finally have a look at what the electric SUV has to offer.

So to compete with the Kona electric, we now know what the auto OEM brings to the table. Highlight - a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery - bigger than that on the Kona.
Kona was already being hailed for its big 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery and the promising range associated with it. With the MG eZS boasting an even bigger one, chances are that the SUV will beat the Kona on range figures. As of now, the range being promised by the eZS are restricted to 262 km and 372 km (in city). But these numbers are based on the WLTP (world harmonised light-duty vehicles test procedure) tests, while that mentioned in India are based on the ARAI test cycle, which may mean more kms in the kitty.

Other specs of the eZS include a 141 bhp (105 kW) power and a 353 Nm of torque. The car promises a charging time of 40 minutes up to 80% with a DC fast charger, while a wall mounted charger will be able to fill in the battery in 6 hours. These numbers too are comparable to the Hyundai Kona, marginally beating the SUV in most of the categories.
There are some similarities to the Hyundai Kona electric as well. Both the cars carry their charging socket in the front of the car. The cars offer several similar connectivity features too. Even the battery guarantee of the two is expected to be the same in India.
When the MG eZS makes its way to the country by the end of December, it will be a welcome change to see the efforts of OEMs to promote electric vehicle drive in the country. With several benefits being offered by the government, both to the manufacturers as well as the buyers for the same, it can easily be seen as the right time to have the first mover advantage in the Indian EV space by the OEMs.
