With its confirmation of entering the Indian market soon, French car maker Groupe PSA¡¯s Citroen has been a part of speculations on how the company will be making its debut in the country. To announce its plans in the Indian market, the firm will be holding a press conference on April 3.
In addition to Citroen though, the PSA group also holds the rights to HM Ambassador, which it acquired back in 2017 while entering into a joint venture with Hindustan Motors. Recent reports now suggest that the company is eyeing to relaunch the iconic Ambassador in India but with a twist. The new car will be an all-electric make.

The reports suggest that the launch of the all-electric Ambassador will be taking place in 2022. With this, the company will finally be aiming to make use of the rights to the marquee that it bought in 2017. At the time, the money raised through the sales was used by HM to clear the dues of ¡°employees, lenders and others,¡± as claimed by a press statement by the firm.
If the report is anything to go by, PSA might go for an exclusive online sales strategy for the Ambassador, even though Citroen will be having a wide retail network in India at the time. Workshops for the two will be common, as will be the manufacturing platform with Citroen using similar sized internal combustion engine models. The target is to have the Ambassador as a profit-making unit.

As and when the all-electric Ambassador makes its way to the Indian market, the vehicle will surely inspire a lot of nostalgia for the Indian commuters. Also, its iconic image set as the preferred vehicle by government officials might soon bring it back to the forum. Only this time, the solid built of the car and its luxurious interiors will be complemented by an emission-less drivetrain, making it a completely green mode of transport.
