Skoda has confirmed that its all new Enyaq iV electric SUV will mark its global debut on September 1. To be revealed at an event in the Czech Republic, the electric SUV has already been hinted at by the company through a teaser image.
The upcoming electric car by Skoda had already garnered much attention since its announcement earlier this year, along with several camouflaged images of its test mule. Due to be unveiled soon now, the EV will go on sale starting 2021 and will mark the beginning of the ¡®iV¡¯ moniker for a range of Skoda electric vehicles.
As for its name Enyaq iV, Skoda says that the title has been inspired by the Irish name ¡®Enya¡¯ meaning ¡®source of life¡¯. The name itself is derived from the Irish Gaelic word ¡®Eithne¡¯, which means ¡®essence¡¯, ¡®spirit¡¯, or ¡®principal¡¯. ¡°We chose ENYAQ to symbolise a new era for ?KODA, one which embraces the power of electric driving,¡± says Skoda.
What is known about the Enyaq iV?
Built on Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, the new Skoda electric car uses the same underpinnings as the new Volkswagen ID 3. Just like the other EVs based on the platform, the Enyaq iV will come in a choice of rear and all-wheel drive.
Other than that, the variants will pan across three battery sizes and five power outputs. The largest battery on the Enyaq iV will be a 125 kW unit with an official range of 310 miles (~500 km). Skoda says that the car can be charged from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes through a DC fast charger.
As for performance, the company claims an acceleration of 0 to 100 kmph in 6.2 seconds on the Enyaq iV. Skoda also says that the Enyaq iV has an interior space similar to the Kodiaq SUV, with a 585-litre boot space.
Inside, it includes a 13-inch touchscreen as well as an augmented reality powered heads-up display. The interiors of the car will be customisable, as per the choice of the customer, and will be made using sustainable materials like leather tanned with olive extract.
The electric SUV is the real-life version of the Skoda Vision IN concept vehicle that was on showcase at the Auto Expo this year. You can check out the Vision IN in the video below.
