Will Delhi-Dehradun Expressway be delayed? Farmers lock up housing board office over compensation dispute
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is facing more delays. Farmers have locked the UP Housing Board office. They are protesting over compensation issues. A big decision from the Allahabad High Court on the Mandola land case is expected soon.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway project is facing a delay. A land dispute in Mandola village near Ghaziabad is causing problems. Farmers are asking for higher compensation for land they gave up in 1998. On April 25, 2025, some farmers locked the gates of the UP Housing Board¡¯s office in Ghaziabad.
They said their payment issues are still not solved. A house on a 1,600 square metre land is blocking a key part of the expressway. The Allahabad High Court is hearing the case and may give a decision on April 29, 2025.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Mandola land dispute
The delay is mainly because of a 1,600-square-meter plot owned by the family of the late Veersen Saroha. In 1998, Veersen fought against the UP Housing Board¡¯s plan to take his land for the Mandola Housing Scheme. The Board had offered ?1,100 per square meter. About 94% of families agreed and took the money. But Veersen and his family refused to give up their land. (as per newsbytesapp)
The matter later turned into a long court fight. After Veersen¡¯s death, his grandson Lakshyaveer took over the case. He also opposed the land being given to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is building the expressway. The case has been through many courts and is now with the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. A final decision can be expected most likely on April 29, 2025.
Impact on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway project
The expressway is being built in two main parts.
- One is a 14.7 km stretch from Akshardham to the UP border.
- The other is a 16 km stretch from Loni to Khekra at the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE).
The disputed house is right in the way of an important ramp section. This is blocking the final work on these parts. The NHAI said the project can be ready by June 2025 if the court issues are solved soon. But because of the ongoing case, this deadline may not be possible.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Farmers protest & housing board office lockdown
Farmers and affected landowners have locked up the Uttar Pradesh Housing Board office to escalate their protests over the compensation dispute. Their dissatisfaction with the money offered and delays in solving the land issues have further slowed down the project's progress.
