The move has been confirmed by Charles Frump, managing director, Volvo Car India, in a recent interview with Autocar. In the interview, Frump mentions that the company is finalising the date to bring the electric car to India sometime next year.
¡°We¡¯re looking at some time next year, at bringing that product (XC40 Recharge) to India, and we¡¯re extremely excited about it. So next year, early, we¡¯ll have S60 and then we¡¯ll have the full battery electric vehicle XC40,¡± said Frump.
Volvo XC40 Recharge
As mentioned above, the XC40 Recharge is the first pure electric vehicle from the house of Volvo. It is based on the XC40 SUV and features two 204 hp electric motors coupled to each axle.
The electric powertrain on the SUV promises to produce 408 hp of power and 660 Nm of torque. With this, the XC40 Recharge can reach a top speed of 180 kmph and an acceleration of 0 kmph to 100 kmph in 4.9 seconds.
Powering all this is a 78 kWh battery that promises a WLTP-certified range of more than 400 km. As for the charging, the XC40 Recharge can be charged up to 80 percent in under 40 minutes.
Along with this, the XC40 Recharge comes with several connectivity and infotainment features that can also be upgraded through future OTA updates.
As for the expected price of XC40 Recharge in India, Frump mentioned that ¡°the gap between the petrol [variant] and the BEV will be much less.¡± It will however, obviously be more expensive than the petrol variant, which is currently priced at Rs 39.90 lakh in India.
The launch of the XC40 Recharge in India will follow the introduction of the S60 hybrid sedan next year in the country as part of an all-round effort by the firm to expand its EV presence in the country.
