Rakshit Shetty on launching Ekam on own platform amidst OTT reluctance
Actor, director, and producer Rakshit Shetty made a surprising announcement on X (formerly Twitter) on June 17. He revealed that his new Kannada web series, Ekam, would be released on his own platform due to what he described as ¡®no takers¡¯ for the series in the OTT market. This statement sparked discussions and raised eyebrows among audiences and insiders in the Kannada film industry.
Rakshit Shetty has been a prominent figure in Kannada cinema since his debut in 2010, known for content-driven films. His recent successes include the pan-Indian hit 777 Charlie in 2022 and the blockbuster Sapta Saagaradaache Ello - Side A and Sapta Saagaradaache Ello - Side B in 2023.
Challenges with Ekam
In his social media post, Rakshit reflected on the journey of Ekam, which began in early 2020 amidst optimism but faced setbacks due to the pandemic. Despite completing the series in October 2021 and being eager to share it with audiences, he encountered repeated hurdles in securing a platform for its release. Frustrated by the lack of interest from mainstream OTT platforms, Rakshit and his team decided to launch Ekam independently.
