The film, which has been directed by R Balki, had opened the 14th Edition of Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in August. Reacting to the same Abhishek Bachchan and R Balki ko Paa fame had issued a joint statement saying,
"It's indeed an honour and pleasure for us that 'Ghoomer' will be the opening film at the IFFM. 'Ghoomer' is a story of turning adversity into advantage. A story of innovation when faced with extermination. It is a tribute to Sport and the reservoir of human resilience. It's only fitting for a film that believes that 'Sport makes life worth living' to be launched in the Sport capital of the world, Australia, land of the MCG. Welcome to the first preview of 'Ghoomer'.

What is Ghoomer About?
¡®Anina (played by Saiyami Kher), a young batting prodigy, loses her right hand in an accident. An unsympathetic, failed cricketer Padam Singh Sodhi (Abhishek Bachchan) gives her new hope, trains her with unconventional techniques, to turn her fate around. They invent a new style of bowling and call it ¡®Ghoomer¡¯.
R. Balki has helmed the film. It is co-written by Rahul Sengupta and Rishi Virmani. The film also stars Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi in supporting roles.
It has been produced by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Abhishek Bachchan, Gauri Shinde, Ramesh Pulapaka and Anil Naidu and presented by Hope Film Makers and Saraswati Entertainment.
