What to expect in Squid Game Season 3?
Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has shared that the upcoming Squid Game season will take a bold new direction and serve as the conclusion to the main storyline.
Speaking to Variety before Season 2's release and what fans can expect, Hwang had cautiously hinted, "At this point, anything I say might be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious. But what I can say is that after Season 2 launches, we will soon be announcing the launch date for Season 3. I expect it to arrive around summer or fall next year."
When discussing the storyline, he teased further, "Gi-hun has lost everything, including his best friend, and all his attempts have ended in failure. Now, what will he do? What state will he be in? Will he continue his mission, or will he give up? You'll meet Gi-hun at a critical crossroads as we begin the third season¡ªhe will not be the same man from Season 2."
Hwang also revealed the emotional depth of the season, stating, "The third season will really explore that sense of loss and failure, that guilt weighing so heavily on Gi-hun. How's he going to navigate the story further with all of that weighing down on him?"
Is Season 3 really the end of Squid Game?
In an interview with THR, Hwang Dong-hyuk shared, "Personally, I see the third season as being the finale to this story. That's because I believe I've had closure to the story I wanted to tell about society through the character of Seong Gi-hun."

However, he also left the door open for future possibilities, adding, "If I ever wanted to go back to the world of Squid Game, it would be about different characters with a different story arc. Some kind of spinoff, maybe. For example, the masked guards. How did they end up here? What do they do in their downtime? Something like that, maybe."
