Karan Johar And Kareena Kapoor¡¯s Fight: Here's Why They Didn't Talk To Each Other For A Year

Karan Johar¡¯s latest season of Koffee With Karan is the talk of the town. With new episodes dropping every Thursday, a lot of revelations are being made by the celebrities on the chat show.

The latest episode featured Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday gracing KJo¡¯s couch. A lot of chatter about relationships, celeb friendships and equations was heard throughout the episode. It all started when Johar hinted at how the two ladies dated the same actor (Kartik Aaryan) at different points of time. He wanted to know how Sara and Ananya have managed to keep their friendship in tact despite that. Sara gave an interesting insight on how the entertainment industry is ever evolving where friendships and rivalries keep changing with time.

During the discussion, he went on to share details of his feuds with his two closest friends and how he overcame it. The two friends that he was referring to were Kajol and Kareena Kapoor.

Ever since then, people have been wondering what exactly happened with Kareena as Kjo mentioned that it was due to his film Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Here¡¯s the detailed story of what went down:

Back in 2002, Karan and Kareena weren¡¯t in talking terms and it lasted for almost a year. He has even mentioned this incident in his autobiography, An Unsuitable Boy.

KJo stated that he had offered Kal Ho Naa Ho to her right after the release of Mujhse Dosti Karoge. While this film tanked at the Box Office, Kareena made a comment about how assistants-turned-filmmakers of big directors aren¡¯t to be trusted. She had said, ¡°Aditya Chopra¡¯s assistant, Kunal Kohli, has made this flop, so Karan Johar¡¯s assistant, Nikhil Advani is not to be trusted either.¡±

When KJo made his offer, Kareena demanded a hefty fee for signing Shah Rukh Khan starrer Kal Ho Naa Ho, which was equivalent to what the Badshah of Bollywood was getting.

KJo wrote in his book, ¡°My first problem was with Kareena. She asked for too much money, and we had some kind of a fallout at that time. The weekend of Mujhse Dosti Karoge¡¯s release, I offered her Kal Ho Naa Ho, and she asked for the same money that Shah Rukh Khan was getting. I said, ¡®Sorry¡¯.¡±

As per reports, SRK was getting paid a very handsome fee of Rs 20 crore at that time.

Kareena asking for that big an amount, even though she was fairly new in the industry rubbed Karan Johar the wrong way. An upset Karan decided to quit the negotiation all together and went on to sign Preity Zinta for the film opposite SRK and Saif Ali Khan.

This led to a cold war of sorts between the two where both Karan and Kareena would look through each other at social events and parties.

As per Karan¡¯s book, "Kareena and I didn't speak to each other for almost a year. For a year, we looked through each other at parties. It was very idiotic. She was a kid, she's a decade younger than me."

This went on until Karan¡¯s father Yash Johar was diagnosed with cancer. Kareena called him to enquire about his dad¡¯s health which broke the ice between the two.

Kjo wrote in his book, ¡°I had to head back, while my father continued the treatment in New York. That was the time Kareena Kapoor called me. It was August. We had not spoken for nine months. She called and said, ¡®I heard about Yash uncle.¡¯ She got really emotional on the phone, and she said, ¡®I love you and I am so sorry I haven¡¯t been in touch. Don¡¯t worry¡¯¡±.

Despite this, their friendship didn¡¯t completely mend as Karan revealed in the episode that Kareena called him soon after she learned about the passing of his father while she was in Bangkok.

He said during the episode,

¡°She was like I don't know what to say, I said, don't say anything, I know you are there. When he passed away, she was in Bangkok, we still had not mended, and the point she landed from her shoot, she came home. We spent all night just chatting. We went back to where we were. When we fought, I said I was never going to speak with her again.¡±
