Meet Harish Joshi, real-life 'Sachiv Ji' from Mahodiya, the village where Panchayat has been shot

If you google Phulera, the village is located in Rajasthan. Is that where the shooting of Amazon Prime Video's Panchayat took place? Is Phulera a real place? Although the village exists in Jaipur, the shooting of one of the most loved shows took place in Madhya Pradesh in the village of Mahodiya village in Sehore.

Sachiv Ji's character is inspired by Harish Joshi?

The real-life Sachiv of Mahodiya is Harish Joshi, whose life is uncannily similar to that of Abhishek Tripathi, Secretary of Gram Panchayat (played by Jitendra Kumar) in Panchayat. Hailing from Sehore, Joshi is a postgraduate in commerce. Just like Tripathi of Panchayat, Joshi wasn't sure of taking up this job, but now he is more than happier. "At first, I wasn¡¯t sure about taking on the role of panchayat secretary. Now, I¡¯m quite happy with my position in the village. I really love my job," he told Village Square.

Joshi revealed he too harboured dreams of pursuing a law degree while he was working in Mahodiya for the past seven years. "But the responsibilities of my job made it hard to continue my studies. I could complete only a year," he said.

Just like Sachiv Ji, Joshi has now fallen in love with Mahodiya and its people

"I commute daily to my office in Mahodiya. For me, this job is more than just a role. It¡¯s an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of my fellow villagers," said Joshi who is two daughters.

After the grand success of the show, his office has become a tourist spot.

Joshi operates from the same single-story pink building that was used as the panchayat secretary's office and residence in the series. A lot of people come to visit the place, he says. They often take photos as well.

Just like Neena Gupta as Manju Devi Dubey, the Pradhan of the village is a woman

Similar to the character Sachiv Ji, who reported to a motherly sarpanch portrayed by Neena Gupta, Joshi also reports to a female boss: Inderbai Rajmal Dhangar.
