Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has come out against the new rule requiring OTT companies to provide a disclaimer against smoking or using tobacco products. He mockingly referred to it as a "progressive decision."
The famous creator Hansal Mehta, tweeted on Wednesday, "Yes. Only our television and cinema are to blame for the deaths caused by cigarettes and smoking.
He added, "These tickers will result in healthy, non-smoking individuals. Very forward-thinking choice."
Yes. The only reason tobacco products and smoking kill is our shows/films. By putting these tickers we will have healthy people who don¡¯t smoke. Very progressive decision.

¡°This decision was made to protect people¡¯s health and raise awareness about the harmful effects of¡ https://t.co/zFOv0Sq73n
In response to a particular statement in the study regarding the inclusion of a smoking disclaimer on OTT platforms, Hansal stated:¡°This decision was made to protect people¡¯s health and raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco.¡±
Reacting to this, an internet user wrote, ¡°I just hope they add the skip button for this too, if not I can always forward.Let the warning be shown to our parliamentarians before the session starts, that's where they pass such laws.¡±
Another added, ¡°Instead stop selling tobacco products. When they don't have the balls to do that, why do they impose such fake warnings and spoil our entertainment.¡±
A third added, ¡°When you can¡¯t solve a problem, digress and take it out on an art form. Horrible decision that will backfire.¡±
If this decision stops 100, 10 or even 1 person to quit / not getting habituated to smoking or tobacco consumption, I genuinely think it's a good decision !

The Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday that the government has mandated that OTT platforms display a conspicuous static anti-tobacco health warning at the bottom of the screen whenever a tobacco product is displayed or utilised in a programme, according to news agency PTI.
The revised regulations mandate that anti-tobacco health ads be shown for a minimum of 30 seconds at the beginning and middle of each broadcast that features tobacco products or their use.
In addition, they must also play an audio-visual warning about the negative effects of tobacco for at least 20 seconds at the start and middle of the programme.
