Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani Ending Explained: Why Didn¡¯t Dhanlakshmi Attend The Wedding?

Karan Johar¡¯s directorial starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt isn¡¯t going to fade away any time soon. After shattering records at the box office, this masala potboiler Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has finally been released on OTT and once again it is creating a lot of buzz.

First things first, there¡¯s no one other than Karan Johar who can make a super-fun masala entertainer. His movies have the rewatchable quality which is very hard to achieve these days considering the decreasing attention span.

I had watched the film in the theatre and enjoyed it thoroughly. On my second watch on OTT, I couldn't help but notice that with RRKPK, Johar¡¯s head of the family character somewhat remains the same but this time around, the tolerance and reception for their wrongdoings had a drastic upgrade.

K3G had Yashvardhan Raichand passing orders like a dictator and the kids Rahul and Rohan following it like it¡¯s the gospel truth. In RRKPK, Rocky has the guts to call out bullshit and take a stand for his mother and eventually his beau. Just a little food for thought!

What Is Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani All About?

A lot has been written about the affable Rocky and Rani and their entertaining Prem Kahani. The film is both entertaining and thought-provoking as it addresses some of the biggest societal evils. It¡¯s a love story of two individuals belonging to different stratas of the society.

Rocky is an uber rich and flamboyant Punjabi boy while Rani is a liberated educated Bengali girl. Their worlds clash when they unexpectedly fall in love. Both families are as different as chalk and cheese and find it hard to accept each other. The lovebirds try their hardest to gain acceptance and therefore switch families and live in each other¡¯s house for three months as an experiment.

As expected, a chaotic ruckus ensues which are both hilarious and eye-opening to say the least. The comedy and drama in the film are on point and the 2 hours and 58 minutes run time goes by in the blink of an eye. The background score, cinematography, emotions and comedy gigs are gripping. So much so that you will be deeply involved in the story and find yourself rooting for the couple to make it work.

The beautiful usage of retro songs will make your heart melt. In fact, more than the young couple, the love story of veteran actors Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi will turn your heart to mush. The casting of the film has been done so beautifully that each and every character stands out, leaving a lasting impact on the audience. Be it Rani¡¯s father Chandon and mother Anjali or Rocky¡¯s father Tijori, sister Gayatri and mother Poonam. The angry matriarch and Rocky¡¯s dadi Dhanlakshmi plays the villain.

The sets are larger than life and a treat for the eyes. Karan Johar has done a phenomenal job with the screenplay of RRKPK.

Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani Ending Explained: Why didn¡¯t Dhanlakshmi attend the wedding?

While Rocky successfully makes a place for himself in the heart of his beloved Rani¡¯s parents, things are not so hunky dory in the Randhawa household. The angry head of the family Dhanlakshmi is a tough cookie to crack and doesn¡¯t budge even one inch when it comes to accepting Rani as the bahu.

Rocky¡¯s dad Tijori comes to terms with his wrongdoings and is ready to make amends for the sake of his family after the tragic death of his father Kawal (Dharmendra). He asks for forgiveness of his kids and wife who he had wronged his entire life even if it means going against his strict mother. However, despite the turn around Dhanlakshmi is still adamant and sticks to her stance.

While the credits roll, we see the wedding taking place at last but Dhanlaksmi is still nowhere to be seen.

In one of the final scenes, Rani receives a letter from Dhanlakshmi stating that she is at an age where it¡¯s difficult to let go of her ego and principles but she makes a peace offering in the form of the secret recipe of Laddoos that is the most important part of their family¡¯s inheritance. It was with this recipe that she created the big empire of her sweets business.

By passing on the recipe to Rani, Dhanlaksmi indirectly gives her acceptance and hopes that Rani will use it to keep the business going but not at the expense of their family¡¯s unity. It¡¯s a poignant end to a rivalry where Dhanlakshmi kept her arrogance by not appearing for the wedding but also giving her blessing by gifting Rani the recipe.
