Sanjay Leela Bhansali Still Thinks Sharmin Segal Was Right Choice For Heeramandi, Here's Why
Unfazed by massive trolling against her, Sanjay Leela Bhansali still thinks Sharmin Segal was the perfect choice for the role of Alamzeb in Heeramandi. Here's why he thinks so.
First, fans expressed disappointment at Sharmin Segal's casting in Heeramandi. They thought her "expressionless acting" spoiled the experience of the show. Later, many even suggested names like Wamiqa Gabbi who could have done a better job than her. All in all, people are still trolling her weeks after the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's series but the ace filmmaker still feels she was the apt choice for the role of Alamzeb, here's why!
Why Bhansali thinks Sharmin is the right choice for Alamzeb in Heeramandi?
Bhansali on Sharmin's Innocence
While speaking to India Today, the filmmaker revealed Sharmin's innocence is what makes her the perfect choice. "She has a face which is exactly what Alamzeb should be, somebody who doesn¡¯t want to be a tawaif, she doesn¡¯t talk like a tawaif, she doesn¡¯t walk like a tawaif. Her face had innocence, whereas all the others had lived life, they had survived manipulation and mental games. You needed somebody with a fresh, innocent quality to her¡ I felt that Sharmin was the right choice for Alam not because she¡¯s my niece."
Sharmin's worked hard for Heeramandi
Like Sharmin had earlier revealed she underwent 12 auditions and worked on herself for over a year, Bhansali also reinstated the same and added, "She had to go through the grind. There were an innumerable number of tests, auditions. There's no end to the number of tests I have done with her, after I have decided to cast her. I told her, 'You have to go through the grind, you have to get it right, because this world you've never been to, you've never acted in. All these other actors have worked over a period of time, they've played characters like this and have understood all these nakhras and thumkas and the nazakat."
Richa Chadha had earlier revealed that she knows of two other women who were competing for the role of Alamzeb.
