In the lively and chaotic Bombay of the 1980s, Shantaram follows a wanted man named Lin Ford as he attempts to get lost. Lin fights to stay away from the turmoil he's escaping in this new location while alone in a strange city. Lin has to decide between staying free and accepting the complications of love after falling for the mysterious and captivating Karla.

Was Shantaram a real-life tale? David Gregory Roberts Discloses the Answer

The Shantaram series is based on the same-titled book by David Gregory Roberts. David Gregory said in an interview that the book is largely autobiographical and centres on his time spent in Bombay between 1981 and 1987. He insists that the important events are real despite the fact that some personalities have been altered or merged.

Along with Charlie Hunnam, the ensemble cast also features Elektra Kilbey, Fayssal Bazzi, Luke Pasqualino, Antonia Desplat, Alyy Khan, Sujaya Dasgupta, Vincent Perez, David Field, Alexander Siddig, Gabrielle Scharnitzky, Elham Ehsas, Rachel Kamath, Matthew Joseph, and Shiv Palekar.

On October 14, 2022, the first three episodes of Shantaram's 12-episode first season will be released. Thereafter, one new episode will air every Friday through December 16, 2022, on Apple TV+.
