Barroz: Guardian of Treasures OTT Release: Malayalam superstar Mohanlal made his directorial debut with this fantasy drama that has finally arrived in theatres. Released on 25th December coinciding with the Christmas holiday season, the Malayalam film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor's Aashirvad Cinemas. For the uninitiated, Barroz will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar after its theatrical run.
Barroz: Guardian of Treasures plot summary
For 400 years, Barroz, a devoted servant, has protected the hidden treasure of Da Gama. Bound by an ancient curse, he waits for the arrival of a rightful descendant to claim it. Set in 1663 AD in Goa, Barroz (Mohanlal) serves as the trusted guardian to a lieutenant of the Da Gama kings, who came to India from Portugal.
After a dark and mysterious ritual, the king of Da Gama (Ignacio Mateos) entrusts Barroz with the task of safeguarding his treasure. Trapped in a cellar for centuries and accompanied only by a voodoo doll, Barroz¡¯s sole mission is to pass the keys to the treasure¡¯s vault to the rightful heir of Da Gama and break free from his eternal duty. Now a benevolent ghost, he protects the treasure from sinister forces. But who is the true heir? And will Barroz ever escape his curse?

Other than Mohanlal himself, this thrilling saga also stars Maya Rao West, Cesar Lorente Raton, Ignacio Mateos, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Nerea Camacho, Daniel Caltagirone, June Vig, Tuhin Menon, Saju Navodaya, Guru Somasundaram, Aadukalam Naren, Komal Sharma, Anjena Kirti, Pedro Figueiredo and Neema Cheriyath among others.
Based on Jijo Punnoose¡¯s novel Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure, the 154-minute-long saga has dialogues by Kalavoor Ravikumar. Barroz¡¯s original score was composed by Mark Kilian, while Lydian Nadhaswaram, Fernando Guerreiro, and Miguel Guerreiro composed the songs. Santosh Sivan has cinematographed this saga with B. Ajithkumar editing it.
