Varun Dhawan has finally shared Baby John Taster Cut on Instagram after it was played in the theatre over the Diwali weekend. The upcoming film will see Dhawan play an ex-cop who goes into hiding to raise his daughter.
Varun Dhawan has taken a page from Shah Rukh Khan's book to make a theatrical comeback with an out-and-out actioner, Baby John. The actor, who was last seen in Maddock Films' Bhediya (2022), has traded his lover boy persona for an action-packed avatar in Atlee's film, as seen in the 'taster cut' released by makers on Monday (November 4). Directed by Kalees with a screenplay by Atlee, the film is the official Hindi remake of Theri (2016), the Tamil action thriller film featuring Vijay.

The upcoming film will see Dhawan play an ex-cop who goes into hiding to raise his daughter. He takes on a new identity as Baby John, sporting a fresh look. Keerthy Suresh, making her Bollywood debut, stars as Varun's wife. The film also features Wamiqa Gabbi and Rajpal Yadav in pivotal roles. But what sets the stage for an epic battle is the entry of Jackie Shroff as the long-haired antagonist, promising an unforgettable showdown with Varun's protagonist. The teaser does not give away much of the plot but promises an engaging revenge saga, something Dhawan tried and excelled in Badlapur.

Given the massive response to the Baby John teaser cut with an Atlee touch, movie buffs are counting on this one to change the trajectory of Dhawan's career, whose last release Bawaal failed to impress both critics and his fans. The teaser was also shared on the Reddit sub-Bolly Blinds and Gossip, and many Redditors have since shared their inputs on the Varun Dhawan starrer's first look.
One user wrote, "Haven't seen the original so will go into this blind. The teaser honestly looks fantastic. Not much is given away in terms of storyline and I hope they keep it that way with the main trailer too because lately, so many Bollywood trailers have been giving so much of the story. BGM is catchy! Hoping Varun gets a good hit with this one."
"Trailer looks good, no doubt, but I felt there were some points where the sound mixing was not done properly," another user highlighted.
A third Redditor mentioned, "The action star Era of Varun Dhawan is coming. This movie will be a huge hit despite the remake factor. It's all about presentation."
"Excited for this. Will be an adrenaline rush, and from the teaser it looks more promising than anything other than Pushpa 2 this year," mentioned another Reddit user.
While most were impressed with the action sequences and adrenaline-pumping background music of the trailer, some fans also highlighted how Varun doesn't match Vijay Thalapathy's charm who starred in the original version. Some users were also not happy with Varun's dialogue delivery and said that his lousy act did not fit well with the premise of the film.
