Not only Kangana will be directing this movie, she will also star in the lead role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The preparations for the movie has begun as the actress was spotted at the Mumbai airport. She jetted off to Delhi for the reccee of Emergency.
A few days back, she shared a photo from her office and wrote, "Marching on... Preproduction day in the office #Emergency."
It was earlier reported that director Sai Kabir, who worked with Ranaut for her 2014 movie Revolver Rani, will be helming the project. However, later the Dhaakad actress said that she will direct the film herself as she believes that no one can tackle the project better than her.
"Pleased to wear director's hat again, after working on 'Emergency' for more than a year, I finally figured no one can direct it better than me, collaborating with fabulous writer Ritesh Shah, even if it means sacrificing on various acting assignments I am determined to do it," she had written on Koo App.
The National Award-winning actor had earlier clarified that Emergency is not a biopic, but a political drama. She said, "It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi. It is a grand period film. To be precise, it is a political drama that will help my generation to understand the socio-political landscape of current India."
Earlier, Kangana Ranaut had made an objectionable comment about Indira Gandhi that led to a complaint being filed against her.
"Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today... But let's not forget one woman... The only woman prime minister ne inn ko apni jooti ke neeche crush kiya tha (the only woman PM who crushed them under her shoes). No matter how much suffering she caused to this nation... she crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her own life.... Lekin desh k tukde nahi hone diye..." she had written on Instagram after it was announced that Centre will repeal three contentious farm laws.
Following this, IYC national secretary Amreesh Ranjan Pandey and Ambuj Dixit, co-coordinator of the outfit¡¯s legal cell, filed a complaint against the actress at the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi.

The complaint was filed for registering an FIR against the actress under sections 124A (sedition), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Pandey said.
