During his speech, Johar said that there has been a lot of debate on 'Animal.' People have expressed different opinions, either supporting or opposing it. "Personally, I saw it as a character film, focusing on a deeply troubled and violent character with emotional issues - and I loved the treatment."
Johar clarified that he was captivated by the storytelling, sound design, screenplay, and character development rather than delving into the moral message of the film. He acknowledged the film's impact on evoking reactions from the audience.
The director explained, "I didn¡¯t go deep into the moral communication of the film; I was so swept by the narrative and the way the filmmaker told the story of it through sound design, screenplay dialogue, and character development that, as a filmmaker, I loved it."
Despite facing criticism, Johar expressed his honesty about his emotional connection to the film and his appreciation for the director's work. 'Animal,' released in December 2023, starred Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Bobby Deol, achieving blockbuster success and becoming Ranbir's highest-grossing film worldwide, earning over Rs 900 crore.
The film, however, received backlash for its perceived promotion of toxic masculinity and extreme violence.
In December 2023, 'Animal' hit the screens and quickly became a standout success, ranking among the top hits of the year. Additionally, it marked a significant milestone as the highest-grossing film of Ranbir Kapoor's career.
