If you loved her character Madhuri from Mirzapur 2,
you will definitely love her even more in real, because she is just bindaas and
awesome. Indiatimes got candid with Isha Talwar and fell in love with her all
over again.
We spoke to Isha about her casting in Mirzapur 2, over all career and the struggles she had to go through to make it in this industry.
To begin, We asked Isha that her character in Mirzapur 2 is compared to Katrina Kaif¡¯s character Indu from Rajneeti, to which she replied, ¡°Haan Sasti copy bola jaa raha hai mujhe¡±.
Talking about the comparison with Katrina, she said, ¡°Well, I understand why these comparisons are made, I have a very funny story to tell. Many years ago I met Ramu (Ram Gopal Verma), and he sat me down in front of the computer and opened the image of Katrina Kaif and looked at me and said, I don¡¯t know if this is a good thing or bad thing, but one of your profile is like Katrina Kaif. I was Oh kay. So this is not the first time I have been compared to her, and I think yeh chalta rahega, its nice thing only, so I am not comparing, hum sab sundar hai¡±.
I have been here since a decade and I always said that I would like to do something really nice, good acting oriented art and I got it and I was wondering now what to do.
When asked how she landed up getting Madhuri¡¯s character in Mirzapur, she said,
"If I would be given even a 5 minute role in Mirzapur, I would have done it. And when I met the makers only then I was told how meaty this role was. When I was flipping the script pages, I said Holy Shit! This is a great role. The moment I saw it was a great part then came the nervousness with it- ki ab isse karna kaise hai, actually more than nervousness it was like ab kya karu,I have been around since a decade and I always said that I would like to do something really nice, good acting oriented art and I got it and I was wondering now what to do.¡±
The first three months I did a lot of workshops, every day I was reading lines, doing different exercises
Further adding on the prep for the role, ¡°In 2019, I didn¡¯t do any work, I focused only on training myself, because in 2018 I felt there is something wrong with me, things weren¡¯t working well. So all these questions were running in my head. I started training from February 2019 and I got this character in May and I was like I am born and brought up in Bombay and now to play a politician, it felt a little farfetched, they actually gave a role which I never envisioned, if I will be able to play it. But they actually saw me like that and that kind of trust and love when somebody gives you, then even you want to give it your all. So the first three months I did a lot of workshops, every day I was reading lines, doing different exercises and then when I went on set, I knew what actually I have to do.¡±
I used to do 6 auditions a day in Bombay and I was still a star in Malayalam films. So I lived a life of a star and struggler at the same time.
Isha has been in the industry for a decade, we asked if she ever thought of giving up her career as things weren¡¯t working in her favour, to which she revealed,
"My journey started on a very high note in Malayalam, I was like a overnight sleeper, my film was a sleeper it in Malayalam. People from North or the other part of country don¡¯t do so well in Malayalam; you only see the migration from Tamil and Telegu. Not many actresses get picked up in a Malayalam film, and I feel I am fairly lucky to get picked for a Malayalam film. And hands down there¡¯s no debate on it. They make the best content in the country.
She further spoke about the low, she faced in her career, "And then slowly things started getting little lower. I didn¡¯t really land up in the good projects. So I started with a very note and then saw the low. It was actually a very funny thing that happened with me I was doing films in Kerala and auditioning in Bombay. I used to do 6 auditions a day in Bombay and I was still a star in Malayalam films. So I lived a life of a star and struggler at the same time. Things didn¡¯t change for me here, despite doing a film with Saif Ali Khan in Kaalakaandi. It¡¯s been a ride, my life is a good film as it has a lot of drama, happiness and sadness.¡±
Talking about how things have changed for her after Mirzapur, Isha says,
"I think there is a good amount of interests for me right now. I have been spoilt with choices. Mirzapur has helped to bring that little attention. So yeah, my social media is gone up, interestingly you get casted on the basis of the followers you have.
I used to play around with my friends and family before the release of Mirzapur that I am going to become a STAR
I had a good feeling for Mirzapur; I used to play around with my friends and family before the release of Mirzapur that I am going to become a Star, ¡®Main Star banne waali hu¡±. My friends were shocked that I was talking like this because, I am always this girl, like, ¡®Arey ye kaam kyun kar lia, yeh achcha nahi tha,¡¯ but the first time I was confident, and I am happy that my gut feeling has served me well.¡±
I am not a total outsider. My father used to be a small town filmmaker here
Lastly we spoke to her about how does she tackle the insider-outsider debate, to which she revealed, ¡°I am not a total outsider. My father used to be a small town filmmaker here, he¡¯s been around here for 40 years, so I am not somebody who has no background in the films. I have a background here, but the rules are different, if you come from a successful parent and you come from a parent who is not successful conventional sense, I don¡¯t want to call it a struggle, but a journey that everybody has to embark upon. You just have to enjoy it, and take it with not a pinch but kilos of salt and sugar; pinch winch will not help here. It¡¯s a process and what I have actually learnt after a decade is, you can¡¯t take yourself so seriously, if it¡¯s successful, great. If it¡¯s not successful than, also great. Bus masti karna chahie, zyaada serious nahi hona chhaie, nahi toh bhaari pad sakta hai.¡±
Isha Talwar left us impressed and how.
