Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan Wins 6 Nominations, Rajamouli's RRR Earns 2 At Asian Film Awards

The award season is here! Several national and international awarding bodies have started their hunt for 2022's best in business. Making India proud, the south entertainment industry is scoring the largest bids. From films like RRR to PS-1, last year any entertainment irrespective of its language ruled our hearts.

Asian Film Awards named Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan and SS Rajamouli's RRR in their esteemed nominations list.

On 6th January, the nominations for the 16th Asian Film Awards were announced. Making it to the list were only two films from India - PS 1 and RRR. Where the Aishwarya Rai starrer is nominated in six categories including best film, the Ram Charan-Jr NTR saga has two categories to fight for - best visual effects and best sound.

Asian Film Awards took to Twitter and wrote, ¡°The press conference of the 16th Asian Film Awards has ended successfully just now! The 16th Asian Film Awards will be held at 7:30 pm on 12 March (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. The nomination list for the 16th Asian Film Awards and the jury president were announced.¡±

Other than Best Film, Magnum Opus PS-1's nominations include Sreekar Prasad for Best Editing, Ravi Varman for Best Cinematography, A.R Rahman for Best Original Music, Eka Lakhani for Best Costume Design and Thota Tharani for Best Production Design. With RRR, it is Srinivas Mohan for Best Visual Effects and Ashwin Rajashekar for Best Sound.

RRR, All That Breathes scores a place in BAFTA awards whereas Gangubai Kathiawadi falls flat.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali who recently gave a masterclass at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) pre-event couldn't make his film Gangubai Kathiwadi get listed for the awards. In the final list released by the award committee, only two Indian projects have made it to the nominations list. Where RRR has been named in 'Film Not In the English Language', All That Breathe is listed in the 'Documentary' category.

Oscars award winner Jessica Chastain heaps praise on RRR.

Taking to Twitter, Jessica re-shared a clip of Naatu Naatu's song which was originally shared with the caption, ¡°RRR is the best¡ªand most revolutionary¡ªblockbuster of 2022...¡± says Rolling Stone, ¡°¡­the dance sequence feels like a Gene Kelly number dialled up to superhuman levels.¡± She quoted, ¡°Watching this film was such a party¡±.

For the unversed, In the Oscars 2023, this SS Rajamouli film has been running to score a nomination in the 'For Your Consideration: Best Original Song - Naatu Naatu' category.
