Amid all the Bollywood Vs South gossip on social media platforms, Rishab Shetty's Kantara has not only emerged as a universal blockbuster at the ticket window but, is also touted to be a contender at the Oscars 2023 opposite SS Rajamouli's RRR in various categories.
Directed by actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty himself, the film revolves around a fiery young man, Shiva, a rebel, who clashes with an unflinching forest officer to defend his south Indian village and nature where spirituality, fate, and folklore rule the lands.

Now, according to reports, after becoming the second highest-grossing film in Kannada after KGF Chapter 2, Rishab Shetty's film Kantara has beaten the Yash starrer blockbuster movie on IMDb as well.

IBDb reports suggest that filmmaker Rishab Shetty¡¯s latest Kannada film ¡®Kantara¡¯ has become the highest-rated Indian film on the platform.
After Kantara's hit theatres on September 30, the action-thriller produced by Vijay Kiragandur, broke the record of Yash-starrer KGF Chapter 2 and has bagged a rating of 9.5/10 as per IMDb.

On the other hand, KGF 2 has a rating of 8.4 while SS Rajamouli's magnum opus RRR has got 8.0 rating on IBDb.
People have been campaigning for Rishab Shetty's to be sent to the Oscars ever since it was released. And recent reports reveal that Hombale Productions has confirmed they have sent the Kannada blockbuster to be considered for Oscars 2023 nominations.

Kantara made a huge impact and one of the examples is the Karnataka government announcing a Rs 2,000 monthly allowance for Daiva Narthakas above 60 years.
Other much-awaited south movies are KGF Chapter 3, Ponniyin Selvan Part 2 and Pushpa 2 and it is yet to see what the New Year holds for the South film industry.
