Rishab Shetty's Kantara Sent For Oscars Nomination As Hombale Productions Confirms Film Sequel

Rishab Shetty's 'masterpiece' Kantara grabbed massive attention after its release on September 30, 2022. The film went on to make waves at the box office breaking several records.
From becoming the most-watched film in Karnataka to beating Yash starrer KGF Chapter 2 to bag the title of 'highest-grossing film in Kannada Box Office', Kantara has proved that it deserves to win an Oscar.
If reports are to be believed, Kantara has now been sent to Oscars 2023 for consideration. This was confirmed by the film¡¯s producers. Reportedly, on Wednesday, Hombale Productions confirmed that they have sent Rishab Shetty's Blockbuster Kannada film to be considered for Oscars 2023 nominations.
According to News18, during an interview with a leading daily, Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Productions has stated that they are hopeful about the film's nomination at the Oscars, and its importance in representing India's culture across the world.
Speaking to PTI, Kiragandur said, "Rishab is away and once he is back, we will discuss what we want to do ¡ª a sequel or a prequel. We will have something in a couple of months. We definitely have plans for ¡®Kantara 2¡¯ but there¡¯s no timeline.¡±
Kantara, which was originally released in the Kannada language was also dubbed into Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, and Tamil. Written and directed by Rishab Shetty himself, Kantara also features Sapthami Gowda, and Kishore Kumar G in key roles.
Reportedly, the Hindi version of the Kannada language blockbuster gave tough competition to several Hindi movies at the box office. Many Bollywood celebrities hailed the Rishab Shetty starrer for its unique content. Anushka Shetty, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Shilpa Shetty are a few who heaped praises on Kantara.
Besides Kantara trying its luck at the Oscars, SS Rajamouli's RRR will also compete at the Academy Awards 2023 in various categories.
According to reports, the list of the shortlisted names in the 10 categories has been released by the Academy, and RRR made it to the list for its energetic ¡®Naatu Naatu¡¯ song that features Jr NTR and Ram Charan.
Even The Last Film Show, which is India¡¯s Official entry to the Oscars, has bagged a spot in the list and is set to compete in the ¡®International Feature Film¡¯ category.
Reportedly, the final Oscar nominations will be announced on January 24 while the voting will begin on January 12 and will go on till January 17. Oscars 2023 will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 12.
