KJo Has Bought The Exclusive Hindi Remake Rights Of Sairat, Claim Reports

It's the highest grossing Marathi movie ever, it touches on the very sensitive matter of casteism, especially in innocent love affairs, even Aamir and Irrfan Khan are busy praising it. But here's the important part - you most probably haven't heard of the film yet, and you have no idea why it's such a landmark film not only in the history of regional cinema but in that of Indian cinema as well.

If reports are to be believed KJo has brought the exclusive rights to remake a Hindi version of the film. A TOI report claims that the film will apparently be produced by Dharma Productions, along with Zee, who were the original producers of the regional film. The film is all set to go on the floors by next year and a fresh cast for the Hindi version would be brought onboard.

Sairat focuses on a young couple who faces violence and oppression because they belong to different castes. The film has got a lot of people talking about the lack of focus on caste-based discrimination in mainstream cinema. And here's what makes this film a landmark, especially in regional cinema.

The director of the film, Nagraj Manjule, already has two national awards under his name.

Nagraj Manjule created waves when he came out with this first movie, which was a short film called Pistulya. He picked up the National Film Award for Best First Non-Feature Film of a Director in 2010. For his next Fandry, which also dealt with teenage love and caste problems, he got the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director, at the National Awards in 2013. This does say a lot about his craft, doesn't it!

The lead actress of Sairat, Rinku Rajuguru, is all of 14 years, and won Special Mention (Feature Film) at the National Awards this year.

Yes, you heard that right. The girl is just 14, and still studies in 10th standard. Yet she is the lead actress of the top grossing Marathi film ever and even has a National Award under her belt. Also, it's her debut film!

It has become the highest grossing Marathi film ever, beating the Natsamrat.

Previously, Nana Patekar's Marathi film Natsamrat was the highest grossing Marathi movie with about 48 crores of business. But Sairat has already crossed 50 crores at the box office.

It was screened at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival, where it received standing ovation.

In Nagraj's own words, "At the International Film Festival of Berlin the world premiere of Sairat took place in the presence of a full house audience. I felt so over whelmed after receiving applauds while they were watching the film. It feels immense pleasure to achieve such love from the audience of such an elite film festival."

Not only Aamir, but Irrfan Khan has also been praising the film.

Aamir Khan took to his twitter account to urge people to watch the film. So did Irrfan Khan and Anurag Kashyap.

Such was the craze for the film, that shows as late as 3 AM were accommodated to cater to the audience's demand.

Yes, that really happened. The film was also released in English subtitles in other states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Hyderabad. Especially in the Satara district of Maharashtra, such was the craze for the film that additional shows at midnight and 3 AM were added at the theatres!

The film's music is by National Award winners Ajay-Atul. And Sairat is the first Indian film to record its music at the Sony Scoring Studios in Hollywood.

According to the music director duo, "Achieving both the precise and particular could only be possibleif we did not scrimp on anything. The technical and engineering standards at the recording were of such high calibre that it has helped add to the overall listening pleasure of Sairat¡¯s songs."

The film's interval comes after almost 2 hours of run time.

The second half of the film is only 44 minutes long, which is pretty unconventional. And even though long films are not appreciated by the audience, this is clearly not the case with Sairat.
